Based on Oleg Kuvaev’s novel of the same name. 1960. The extreme North-East of our country. In the heart of the Territory on the coast of the Arctic Ocean there stands a village of gold prospectors. After the war the country needs gold but still the Territory produces only alluvial tin. A directive from the town requires to shut down the geological unit. But the legendary Buddha, the chief of the Territory Ilya Chinkov is sure that there’s gold here. He challenges Fate. He promises to find gold during one field season. He can win only if he rallies people who share his belief in the presence of gold in the Territory.
ALEXANDER MELNIK
Born in 1958. A hydrologist, worked in Kamchatka, Chukotka, Sakhalin, Primorye. He also worked as a journalist, writer, playwright, general manager of the publishing house “Andreevsky Flag”. He initiated and headed a number of public projects. In 2003–2005 he was general producer of live TV broadcasts on the NTV Channel of the Descent of the Holy Flame in Jerusalem. Debuted as a film director in 2008 with the movie “Terra Nova” which won an award of the Russian festival “Kinotavr” in Sochi. “Territory” is his second directorial work.
