A tragic melodrama based on Alexander Ostrovsky’s play “Without a Dowry”. Beautiful Larisa Ogudalova, the daughter of the impoverished aristocratic widow living in a small town on the banks of the Volga, is madly in love with the landlord Sergei Paratov. He shares the girl’s passion, but only until a certain moment: at the height of their romance when they are about to come to a decision Paratov has to leave on some business related to his estate.
