Egor is an extraordinary, strong person of Altai origin. He and his large family live and work in the town with a tell-tale name of Shakhty (Coal Mines). But every year life dwindles away from these places, the mines are closed, the people lose their jobs, the meaning of life, hope… Egor knows that he must save his family, that there is no future for his children and grandchildren here. After the fateful accident which causes the deaths of many miners, he makes up his mind. With a firm hand he uproots his family and heads to Altai, into the unknown, into a new life on earth…

KAREN GEVORKYAN
Film director, writer, director of photography, producer. Born in 1941 in Yerevan, USSR. Graduated from VGIK, cinematography department (class of B.Volchek) and from the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters & Film Directors (class of L.Trauberg). Served at Armenfilm Studio. Winner of national and international film festivals. His directing filmography includes “Here, on This Crossroads” (1974), “August” (1978, TV), “Ivan Pavlov. In Search of Truth” (1984, TV series), “Only I Know” (1986), “Spotted Dog Running at the Edge of the Sea” (1990), “Welcome to Hell” (1996, doc.), etc.
