Three days in the life of an ordinary Moscow school. The protagonist Ilya Melnikov is a teacher of history and supervisor of 9th form, in which an extraordinary case took place. In response to unfair actions of the teacher of literature one of the pupils, Gena Shestopal, got into the teacher’s room, stole the composition and burned it. Pupils wrote the composition on the subject “What is Happiness?” Gena realized that his sincerity was not appraised and thus decided to commit the above act. Ilya Melnikov did his best to protect the pupil. On Monday teachers’ meeting will decide his future.

STANISLAV ROSTOTSKY 1922–2001
Born in Rybinsk. A wounded veteran of the Great Patriotic War. In 1952 he graduated from VGIK, lm directing department, class of Sergey Eisenstein and Grigory Kozintsev. Then served at the Gorky Film Studio. People’s Artist of the USSR, laureate of State Awards, winner of national and international lm festivals, twice nominee for Oscar Award. His lmography includes “It Happened in Penkovo” (1957), “May Stars” (1959), “Seven Winds” (1962), “The Hero of our Time” (1967), “The Dawns are Quiet Here” (1972), “White Bim Black Ear” (1977), “Trees Grow on the Stones Too” (1985), etc.
