The action of the film takes place in 1974 when the China was in the late stage of the Cultural Revolution. The story tells about the lives of several family members, and in particular emphasizes that the fate of each family is influenced by the local customs. The director used a panoramic perspective to show the people and affairs of remote villages. The film’s imagery style is poetic and genre-like. It recreates the survival and development of rural China in the 1970's. It is a unique memory film.

Young director, current graduate subject at the Beijing Film Academy. He pays close attention to make films with realistic subject matters and the ones with minority themes. He has directed several films on Chinese minorities’ lives, such as “Country Life”, “Erma’s Wedding” and “The Singer”.
